Sleep disorders in the general practitionerʼs office
Summary:
Sleep disorders are reported primarily to general practitioners. They can result from both somatic and psychiatric illnesses, or they can constitute a separate condition. The paper presents the most common sleep disorders with their epidemiology, definitions, treatment options and guidelines of management, including when and where to refer patients for most suitable specialist care. Insomnia is the most widely described, as it is the most common of all sleep disorders. Recently emerged eszopiclone is presented as a therapeutic option. Finally, SARS-CoV-2 pandemic epidemiological alterations in sleep disorders are described.
