Diagnosis and treatment of aortic stenosis from the perspective of a general practitioner
Summary:
Aortic stenosis is a disease entity with growing clinical importance, due to its elevation over time in elderly patients who visit a primary care physician. This heart defect has a progressive course and leads to the gradual progression of left ventricular dysfunction and the deterioration of the quality of life. If aortic stenosis is suspected, confirming the diagnosis and selecting the optimal treatment strategy are required. The aim of the study is to better understand the pathogenesis of this disease and to systematize the knowledge on modern therapy. The given classification of aortic stenosis and the characteristics of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are based on the current recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology. We hope that this study will facilitate the daily practice of a primary care physician.
