Summary: The new EPOS 2020 guidelines in sinusitis treatment delivered some new approaches important in both sinusitis diagnostics and therapy. Therefore, their implementation in family medicine seems to be important.
The role of the first-line treating physician and OTC medication are underlined. Nasal GCS and nasal wash are still the cornerstones of treatment in many aspects of sinusitis. The avoidance of antibiotics in type 2 CRS and post-viral ARS is also important. New biological agents are introduced in CRS type 2 treatment. The EPOS 2020 document is long and not easy to navigate, we have therefore summarized the approach to sinusitis treatment in condensed form for practitioners regardless of their board certification.
