Summary:
On March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. As SARS-CoV-2 spread all over the world, many professional organizations have developed interim guidelines for the management and prevention of CO-VID-19. According to data from WHO most people with COVID-19 develop mild (40%) or moderate (40%) disease. Approximately 15% develop severe disease that requires oxygen support, and 5% have critical disease. Depending on the severity of the disease, a range of potential treatments have been suggested for COVID-19, but there is still little evidence to assess their efficacy and safety. A lot of medical trials are in progress and with incoming data we should reconsider our procedures. The paper presents both the management of SARS-CoV-2 infection recommended by the Polish Association of Epidemiologists and Infectiologists and WHO guidelines in the context of the latest trials.
