Psychiatric aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic
Summary:
The current situation in the face of Covid-19 situation is, from a psychiatrist's perspective, extremely difficult to handle. The levels of and the extended duration of social stress affect individuals enourmously. It has multifaceted and multidirectional psychological and sociological, and immunological implications. The long lasting stress can induce changes in the immune system and a risk of developing depression disorders, which they themselves in turn are a risk factor in serious undergoing Sars-Cov-2 infection. Numerous studies reveal that antidepressants can become real protection against serious infection as they are able to modify the way individuals undergo the Sars-Cov-2 infection. Those individuals who have recovered from Sars-Cov2 infection often complain about experiencing syptoms somehow similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and depressive disorder. However, there are no systemic standards of dealing with such patients. More research is needed as more implications of the pandemic time are expected to show soon in the entire world.
