Lung ultrasound in COVID-19

Summary: The use of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of respiratory tract diseases has already reached a well-established position. Lung ultrasonography is performed in intensive care units, emergency departments, chest disease departments and in the diagnosis of connective tissue diseases. It is also widely applicable in neonatology and pediatrics, especially when diagnosing lower respiratory tract infections. The benefits of implementing lung ultrasonography into daily practice, already observed in various medical fields, unequivocally suggest its clinical value and potential. This paper presents the possibilities of applying point-of-care lung ultrasonography in the diagnosis of patients with COVID-19, with its advantages and limitations. It also describes how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced sonographic lung imaging.
