Typical medications used in family medicine and the risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection and a severe clinical course of COVID-19
Summary:
Hypertension, back pain, asthma and allergic rhinitis are common diseases in family medicine. During the COVID-19 pandemic some information might have suggested that treatment of the aforementioned diseases may play an important role in susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection and worsen the clinical course of the disease. In this short review the authors summarize data showing that, according to current knowledge, there is nothing to suggest that ACEi, ARB, ibuprofen and GCS may increase the risk of coronavirus infection and a severe course of COVID-19. Moreover, stable treatment and good control of blood pressure, asthma and rhinitis may reduce the risk of a severe course of COVID-19.
