Fibromyalgia - from helplessness to effectiveness
Summary:
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a common chronic pain disorder that presents diagnostic and treatment challenges for patients and healthcare professionals. Several classification and diagnostic criteria of FM have been developed over the years. The management of FM requires a multidimensional step approach that includes early diagnosis, patient education, aerobic exercise, behavioural therapy, and pain management. Recent guidelines suggest that initial management should focus on nonpharmacological therapies. The most common pharmacological therapies for the pain management of FM include duloxetine, amitriptyline, pregabalin and tramadol, or their combination.
