Physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties of medical deviced applied in the form of aerosols as supportive measures in the treatment of throat diseases
Summary:
The treatment of inflammation of the throat and larynx is not only a direct pharmacological therapy with the application of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, antibacterial and antiviral agents used in various pharmaceutical forms. Preparations that have a different status than medicinal products, e.g. physically acting medical devices, play a vital role in the therapy as supplementary and supportive measures. Thanks to an advancement in the pharmaceutical technology, they can be applied in forms that contribute to supporting of the action of pharmacological substances to improve the effectiveness of the therapy through moisturizing and coating effects. Liquids with different physicochemical properties which thanks to appropriate dispensing devices (applicators) are transferred to the form of an aerosol cloud dispensed directly by the patient to the mucosa may be quoted as an example here. This article analyzes pharmaceutical liquid medical devices in an aerosol form and assesses their properties with regard to supporting the therapy of throat and larynx diseases.
