Summary:
Functional constipation is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder in children. The paper presents clinical cases of children with functional constipation. The diagnosis is based on the Rome IV criteria for functional gastrointestinal disorders. Nonpharmacological interventions include education, demystification of constipation and a toilet training program. Pharmacological treatment includes disimpaction and maintenance therapy. For both, macrogol (polyethylene glycol) is the first-choice laxative.
