Differences in the formulation of hard capsules and uncoated tablets with glucosamine and chondroitin
Summary:
Modern pharmaceutical technology aims at guaranteeing the maximum therapeutic effect, comfort and safety of use, as well as the appropriate time and place of action. Formulation work optimizing the pharmaceutical form of a capsule or tablet is also to ensure the minimization of side effects and guarantee the appropriate shelf life. Designing different pharmaceutical forms with the same active substances requires the use of excipients that are often different in functional terms and which may determine differences in morphology and effect of specific types of drug forms. In this study, hard capsules and tablets containing chondroitin sodium sulphate and glucosamine hydrochloride have been analyzed by using pharmacopoeial morphological studies of pharmaceutical forms. It has been demonstrated how the use of functional excipients determines the functional and morphological properties of solid pharmaceutical forms in terms of potential pharmacotherapeutic benefits.
