Summary:
Meniere’s disease is a chronic, progressive disease of the inner ear. It is a disorder characterized by recurrent dizziness and tinnitus. It may be accompanied by hearing loss. There is no causal treatment for Meniere’s disease.
Most methods of treatment rely on reducing the severity and frequency of dizziness. Available treatment methods do not improve hearing. Making small lifestyle changes can help with treatment of Meniere’s disease. Medications that can be used for the treatment of this disease include diuretics (for example: acetazolamide, hydrochlorothiazide), anti-emetics (phenothiazine, thiethylperazine, promethazine), drugs that modify the blood circulation in the inner ear and support drainage of excess labyrinth fluids (betahistine). Minimally invasive treatments such as tubular steroid therapy, tubular gentamicin therapy can also be used. Sometimes endolymphatic sac surgery is used as well.
