Summary:
Southeast Asia is one of the most popular exotic destinations among Polish tourists. The article contains basic information how to prepare an adult patient for a trip in relation to health hazards occurring in this part of the world. A pre-travel consultation should preferably take place 6–8 weeks before the planned departure and include at least advice on recommended vaccinations, malaria and other vector diseases prophylaxis, prophylaxis and self-treatment of travelers' diarrhea. A significant risk for travellers is exposure to the rabies virus, therefore the advice should also include the consideration of pre-exposure vaccinations and explaining post-exposure procedures. Most travellers experience health problems during their stay in Asia. Adequate prophylaxis and health education before departure can prevent illnesses or reduce their impact on traveller's health and the planned activities during the trip.
