Summary:
The term "tinea corporis" refers to epidermal dermatophyte infections in sites other than the feet, hand or groin. Dermatophytes cause a variety of clinical symptoms. A potassium hydroxide preparation and fungal culture are needed to confirm the diagnosis. Most cutaneous dermatophyte infections limited to the epidermis can be managed with topical antifungal therapy. Oral treatment is used for extensive infections.
