Abdominal pain in diabetes – challenge for patient and healthcare professionals

Summary: Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycaemia related to impaired insulin secretion and/or function. As a chronic disease, diabetes affects the entire body, causing many serious complications. Gastrointestinal side effects include pancreatopathy, SIBO, esophageal dysmotility, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, gastroparesis, neuropathy. The gastrological symptoms most frequently mentioned by diabetic patients in the Polish population include: flatulence (67.3%), abdominal pain (65.5%), epigastric fullness (45.5%), diarrhea (43.6%).
