Summary: Colonoscopy is still the major and irreplaceable method of examining the large bowel. Despite the constant development of endoscopic and imaging techniques, proper colon cleansing is still a key step in determining the quality of the examination and the effectiveness of possible endoscopic procedures. Recently, attention has been paid to a number of new factors improving the quality of cleansing, as well as facilitating the process of preparation by the patient. There are also new pharmacological preparations that allow to achieve a good quality of preparation with better tolerance, which translates into improved acceptance of the entire diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy.
