Summary: Currently, there is still a discussion on the safety of metamizole in various patient populations. Changes in the registration of metamizole indicate the possibility of its use in the case of pain and fever in the youngest patients. This is due to the fact that metamizole, both in relation to paracetamol and drugs from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, is characterized by a different mechanism of action, and therefore it cannot be used interchangeably with other non-opioid analgesics. The paper discusses the benefits of using metamizole in the treatment of pain and fever, emphasizing comparable population safety compared to both paracetamol and NSAIDs.
