Summary: Cough is a very common symptom in pediatric population. In practice, management of a child with chronic cough lasting more than 4 weeks is a big challenge despite the guidelines and expert opinion published in last decades. This paper presents main steps in cough diagnosis leading to classifi cation useful in further therapeutic decisions. Therapeutic proposals for coughing children include mainly causal treatment supplemented by brief symptomatic treatment if necessary.
