Osteoarthritis therapy in a family doctor's office
Summary:
Osteoarthritis is the most common rheumatic disease in the adult population. An epidemiological analysis of osteoarthritis, covering all continents, showed that from 1990 to 2019, the number of patients with osteoarthritis and living with disability because of it doubled (an increase of 114.5%). Such a dramatically increasing number of patients is the result of an aging population and a continued increase in the number of people with obesity (1). This article presents a spectrum of treatment options for osteoarthritis, from non-pharmacological methods and patient education to analgesic therapy and complementary treatment.
Keywords: osteoarthritis, non-pharmacological treatment, analgesics, opioids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, complementary treatment
