Summary:
The first year after the onset of arthritis symptoms is referred to as early arthritis (EA). The course of EA will be influenced primarily by a quick diagnosis and implementation of effective therapy with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), primarily methotrexate. Clinical remission of the disease and ensuring the ability to function without pain, including the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids, remain the main goal of EA treatment. Particularly important in EA are also non-pharmacological interventions, primarily patient and family education, lifestyle changes (diet, dental care, smoking cessation, vaccinations), psychological care, increasing physical activity and kinesitherapy (gymnastics).
