Home BP measurement – what have the European Society of Hypertension 2023 guidelines changed in daily practice?
Summary:
The basis for diagnosis and managing hypertension is the measurement of BP. Inadequate measurement methodology or use of inaccurate BP measuring devices can lead to overdiagnosis or underdiagnosis of the disease. The current ESH guidelines (2023) and statements (2021–2023) summarise recommendations for BP measurements for clinical practice in and out-of-the office. Current guidelines recommend widespread use of ABPM and also HBPM for detecting white-coat hypertension, masked hypertension, true resistant hypertension and other clinically important conditions. Current review summarises the clinical indicatios for the use of HBPM in clinical practice with particular focus on clinical conditions co-existing with hypertension.
