Home oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation (NIV)

Summary: In COPD, and less frequently in the asthma/COPD overlap or other obstructive airway diseases in conjunction with pathological obesity, the progressive disease process leads to respiratory dysfunction, which most commonly manifests itself as progressive hypoxemia and hypoxia. In these cases, in patients with stable disease, treatment includes using non-invasive respiratory support and oxygen in the home. In the case of severe respiratory failure in exacerbation of the disease with increasing vapor pressure of carbon dioxide, the ad hoc application of non-invasive ventilation is preferable.
Keywords: respiratory insufficiency, oxygen therapy in home, non-invasive mechanical ventilation, qualification for home oxygen therapy, qualification for NIV
