Safety of vaccinations in pregnant women

Summary: Vaccinations are the most effective form of preventing dangerous infectious diseases. The percentage of vaccination coverage of the Polish population, including the pregnant population, is low and has amounted to only a few percent in recent years. There is no scientific evidence of a risk to the fetus from vaccinating pregnant women with vaccines containing non-live viruses or bacteria. The consensus of the greatest scientific authorities on vaccination of pregnant women has been achieved – both global organizations and scientific societies recommend vaccination against whooping cough, influenza and recently COVID-19. Promoting pro-vaccination attitudes along with educating pregnant patients about the benefits of vaccination, as well as ensuring the safety of vaccines for pregnant women and their neonates is crucial in the process of increasing the vaccination coverage of the population.
