Summary: The acute and chronic sinusitis are common upper respiratory airway diseases. Both are often underdiagnosed and treated with unsatisfactory results. In this paper, we are suggesting the adjuvant treatment with mucolytics with focus on erdosteine. This approach, based on clinical studies may enhance the efficacy of therapy. Erdosteine decreased the number of recurrent infections, diminished the bacterial biofilm formation and allows for the evacuation of mucous. Moreover, it is known for decreasing release of many inflammatory substances in the airway. This leads to the shorten disease duration and better quality of life.
