Summary: Pregnant women complaining about acute pain constitute for the physicians a special group of patients due to the common belief that majority of painkillers penetrate the placental barrier and may be responsible for a number of adverse reactions. Pharmacotherapy during lactation is of great concern as well. Schemes of pain treatment in obstetrics should enable the doctor to individualize the therapeutic procedure and properly select effective and safe analgesics.
