Summary:
Metastatic changes in bones and cancer-related bone pain are major factors in advanced cancer that significantly worsen patients’ quality of life and their estimated life expectancy. Due to its character, bone pain is very difficult to control with the help of widely available analgesics or non-pharmacological methods; intense bone pain is even considered a crisis situation in palliative care. Thanks to ongoing research, we know more about the most probable causes of bone pain. This has led to the development of a number of biological drugs with the potential to act as co-analgesics that can substantially improve bone pain control. A few of these drugs are described in this paper.
