Avoidant/restrictive food Intake Disorders (ARFID) in children up to 4 years old – a perspective of pediatrician and dietitian
Summary:
The article summarizes the current knowledge about Avoidant / Restrictive Food Intake Disorders (ARFID) in children up to 4 years old and presents a diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm. Typical symptoms of ARFID include a significant lack of interest in food, avoidance of foods due to their sensory aspects, and fear of aversive consequences of consuming certain foods. An interdisciplinary team should be involved in the management of a pediatric patient with ARFID. Treatment includes behavioral therapy and dietary support.
