Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease – the role of acetylsalicylic acid

Summary: The article discusses the main principles of the prevention of cardio-vascular disorders. Stresses the important role of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), which is the basis for the prevention of both as monotherapy and in combination with other drugs. In Poland a standard ASA dose is 75 mg, however, in most European countries the recommended dose remains 100 mg. Due to the growing population of obese people, or those who suffer from diabetes mellitus perhaps also Polish recommendations should also be modified. In work also state that not only the dose, but also a form of pill may interfere with preventive effectiveness of ASA. Coated tablets in more than 3.5 times more often did not provide effective platelet aggregation.
