Summary: Allergen immunotherapy (AIT), which involves the administration of allergen extracts to patients with symptoms of allergic disorders, is the leading therapeutic tool in modern allergology. The efficacy, safety, standardization and strategy of AIT are being continuously developed. Current asthma therapies effectively control symptoms and the inflammatory process but do not affect the underlying, dysregulated response. The use and role of AIT in asthma is still a matter of debate. AIT cannot be recommended as a single therapy. The aim of this paper is to present the effectiveness and safety of AIT in asthma on the basis of different surveys.
