Hypersensitivity to excipients present in drugs – a growing practical problem

Summary: In Poland, every day more than 8 million people play a kind of pharmacological roulette using drugs whose improper combination may even pose a death risk. Approximately 3-7% of admissions to hospitals are patients with drug-induced complications. We are not always aware that the occurrence of side effects does not have to correspond to the active substance contained in the drug, but that the excipients contained in the form of the drug could be responsible. Hypersensitivity to soya, peanuts as well as lactose intolerance is of the highest practical importance.
Keywords: drugs, excipients, adverse drug reactions
