Treat-to-target strategy in inflammatory bowel disease
Summary:
A treat-to-target strategy means such an approach to treatment goals in which the measure of success is not only the release of the patient from clinical symptoms, but in which the prevention of distant complications of the disease becomes a priority. The goal of treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases should be to release the patient from clinical symptoms, understood as the lack of diarrhea and abdominal pain as well as healing of the intestinal mucosa defined as the lack of ulcerations in the endoscopic examination.
