Summary:
Frequent infections of the respiratory system are a common problem among children, but are usually of a mild and temporary nature. The significance of these infections decreases with a child’s development and maturation of its immune system. There are many individual and environmental factors increasing susceptibility to infection , the most important ones including collectivization, exposure to tobacco smoke, lack of or short-term breastfeeding and avoidance of vaccination.
Allergic diseases, tonsil hypertrophy, immunodeficiency should be taken into account in differential diagnosis of recurrent respiratory infections. Elimination of modifiable risk factors and common use of vaccination are both key elements of the medical procedure.
