Hepatic steatosis and diabetes mellitus

Summary: The prevalence of NAFLD has increased. It affects about 17-46% of the population in Europe. NAFLD has been shown to be very common in the obese population. The most important risk factors for NAFLD are: age, obesity, insulin resistance, male gender and metabolic alterations that define the metabolic syndrome. One kind of NAFLD is NASH. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) can progress to cirrhosis.tis (NASH) can progress to cirrhosis.
