Summary: Urticaria is a heterogenous skin disorder characterized by the sudden appearance of wheals, angioedema or both symptoms at once. The cause of urticaria is rarely food allergies, more often drugs, hymenoptera venom or physical factors. The most important element of diagnosis is a detailed interview. If urticaria-provoking factors are identified, they should be avoided. Second-generation antihistamines are recommended as the first-line symptomatic treatment. Topical steroids are not used. Treatment should be modified in accordance with the response to treatment and possible side effects.
