Urticaria ‒ the use of antihistaminic drugs

Summary: Urticaria is a heterogeneous disease with a complex patho-mechanism characterized by the presence of a complex of skin symptoms including wheals, angioedema, or the presence of both skin lesions simultaneously. The first-line treatment of urticaria are second-generation antihistamines, therefore the selection of the appropriate preparation is key to the optimization and effectiveness of the therapy. The drug often chosen in everyday practice is bilastine, which has a high safety profile even in long-term use, is effective in the treatment of urticaria and has no sedative effect. According to the current expert consensus, there are no indications to modify the treatment of urticaria in the COVID-19.
