Allergic Rhinitis 2018: Standards – what’s new in the treatment
Summary:
Allergic rhinitis (ANN) is an inflammatory disease caused by allergic factors. It is one of the most common chronic illnesses in the world. It is estimated that approximately 1–40% of the general population suffers from AR. Treatment of allergic rhinitis is an extremely important therapeutic challenge due to the fact that AR is not only about symptoms such as nasal itching, sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itching and redness of the eyes, itching of the ears or coughing, but also lowering the quality of life of the patient, sleep disturbances, reduced performance or even absence from work or school, and exacerbation of other comorbidities, especially asthma. Treatment of AR involves the use of drugs such as nasal glucocorticoids, oral antihistamines, intranasal antihistamines or anti-leukotrienes, as well as other treatment methods. Nevertheless, there are still questions about how to optimally treat a patient with allergic rhinitis so that the therapy can be effective, safe and give a good therapeutic effect as well as satisfaction for our patients.
