COVID and chronic pain

Summary: The COVID-19 epidemic presents a great challenge in treating patients with chronic pain. New data was reviewed to assess the impact of the pandemic and the availability of public health services on the health and treatment of patients with chronic pain. The neurological complications of COVID-19, in particular Guillain-Barré syndrome, polyneuropathy, myelitis and stroke, are being analyzed for the potential risk of chronic neuropathic pain. In order to assess the exact risk of neuropathic pain following COVID-19, prospective cohorts of longitudinal patients should be implemented. The review found that the pandemic had a very negative impact on the physical and mental health of chronic pain patients.
