Rehabilitation in patients after infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus
Summary:
The SARS-CoV-2 virus belongs to the group of coronaviruses that cause acute respiratory disease, but also a multi-system disease, often of severe course, resulting in the patientʼs death. Long-term consequences of infection impair function of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and consequently reduce physical fitness, quality of life and induce emotional disorders. With the duration of the pandemic, more and more people suffer from Post-COVID Syndrome, requiring intensive medical activities aimed at restoring psychomotor fitness after the end of the acute phase of the disease. There are available recommendations in the literature regarding rehabilitation procedures in survivors of COVID-19. There are also pilot programs for the rehabilitation of survivors of COVID-19. Physiotherapy is to help eliminate the negative effects of the SARA-CoV-2 virus infection, including the long-term consequences of the infection. The main goals of rehabilitation in survivors are to improve cardiovascular and respiratory fitness, muscle strength, general psychophysical fitness and quality of life.
