Summary: The paper presented current knowledge on bacterial lysates (LB) used in respiratory tract infections, including viral ones. The composition and mechanisms of action of LB are discussed. The most important effects of LB in the prevention of recurrent respiratory tract infections in adults and children as well as in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients were discussed. Special attention is given to new possibilities of using LB in the prevention of respiratory viral infections.
