Budesonide emission from a mesh nebulizer (preliminary report)

Summary: The paper presents data obtained in preliminary studies of the emitted dose of budesonide (BUD) released as aerosol from the Intec Twister Mesh NE-105 nebulizer. Chromatographic analysis of BUD collected in the condensed aerosol indicates statistically significant differences in the emitted mass of this active ingredient among various BUD products. As a consequence, patients may obtain only approximately 80–94% of the declared (nominal) dose of BUD. This may be caused by the different physicochemical properties of the tested BUD formulations (micro-suspensions).
Keywords: budesonide inhalation suspension, vibrating mesh nebulizer, in vitro study
