No risk, no treatment ‒ how to effectively manage the cardiovascular risk of patients according to the new guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology?
Summary:
Five years have passed since the publication of previous gu-idelines for the cardiovascular prevention. During this period, numerous new studies were carried out, the results of which must be considered when making diagnostic and therapeutic decisions in accordance with the current medical knowledge. In 2018 and 2019, the standards for the management of hypertension, dyslipidemias and diabetes were published. Changes in the pharmacotherapy of these diseases, new results regarding the importance of specific groups of drugs and lifestyle changes in risk modification, resulted in necessary to publish a document holistically covering the management of cardiovascular risk in both apparently healthy patients and those with diagnosed atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
