Long term respiratory effects of COVID-19
Summary:
COVID-19 is an acute respiratory disease that, in some patients, may lead to respiratory failure and death. Respiratory symptoms persist for a long time in a significant group of patients after contracting COVID-19. If these symptoms last longer than 12 weeks, we classify them as post-COVID syndrome. Lung fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic pneumonia, pulmonary cirrhosis, respiratory failure and other complications may occur in the course of this syndrome. The article discusses the management of post-COVID patients in terms of respiratory diseases.
