Pulmonary rehabilitation after COVID-19
Summary:
Return to physical activity and pulmonary rehabilitation are important components of COVID-19 treatment ‒ both in an acute phase of the disease and in post-COVID-19.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is defined as a comprehensive intervention based on a thorough patient assessment followed by patient tailored therapies that include, but are not limited to, exercise training, education, and behavior change, designed to improve the physical and psychological condition of people with chronic respiratory disease and to promote the long-term adherence to health-enhancing behaviors. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs for patients after COVID-19 should take into account all the above-mentioned elements, and the absence of any of them may be harmful for successful outcome of this complex process. The role of pneumological rehabilitation in post-COVID-19 patient care, is emphasized by consensuses and recommendations of scientific societies.
