Does the type of inhaler affect the risk of local side effects of inhaled medications?

Summary: This article describes the most common local side effects of inhaled medications. Factors influencing the frequency of these symptoms are discussed, focusing primarily on different methods of delivering inhaled drugs to the respiratory tract. Dry powder inhalers, due to less frequent mistakes made by patients during inhalation, are characterized by a lower risk of oral candidiasis, dysphonia and carious lesions compared to pressurised metered-dose inhalers.
