Aspects of the 65+ patient that deserve special attention

Summary: In the long-term prognosis, in 2030 people aged 65+ will constitute about 23.5% of the Polish population. Therefore, the question of how to evaluate such patients becomes a crucial point. Geriatric patients very often present many diseases. The Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is an organized method conducted by a physician for the multidisciplinary assessment of patients above 60+ in such aspects as optimization of pharmacological treatment, giving appropriate care, improvement in daily functioning, and quality of life. Behavior disorders of elderly people very often become a real problem in the daily practice of primary care physicians and specialists in hospitals. Currently, there are safe pharmacological solutions for those patients. In cases of diagnosed dementia, one should avoid a combination of pro-cognitive treatment with hydroxyzine or quetiapine and instead choose medications that are both neutral in the metabolic area and for pro-cognitive drugs.
