Summary:
Inhalation therapy is the basic method of treatment of respiratory diseases including bronchial asthma, but increasingly also respiratory tract infections. Its effectiveness depends on factors such as the technical parameters of inhalers, the formulation of the active substance or the patientís ability to properly apply a specific inhalation technique. In clinical practice, three basic methods for the production and delivery of therapeutic aerosol for the respiratory system, i.e. pressurized inhalers, dry powder inhalers and nebulization, are used. Especially the latter method has now gained considerable popularity, particularly among pediatric patients and in the elderly, although it is not always the most appropriate and effective form of treatment for them. However, it cannot be concealed that it has many advantages and in certain clinical situations is the best therapeutic alternative, so it is worth to read the position of GINA experts regarding nebulization.
