Rupatadine – a non-sedative antihistaminic drug in the treatment of urticaria and allergic rhinitis

Summary: Second-generation antihistamines play a key role in the treatment of allergic diseases, mainly including allergic rhinitis and urticaria. They are characterized by selective antagonism against histamine H1 receptors. They are characterized by high effectiveness of action, a high safety profile and significant reduction of symptoms in relation to first-generation antihistamine. Rupatadine is a modern second-generation antihistamine that is distinguished by a dual mechanism of action. It is a strong antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor and platelet activation factor receptor, PAF. In addition to its antihistamine effect, it also has anti-inflammatory effects that work well in allergic disease treatment.
