Low, even lower. New data and guidelines for the management of hypercholesterolaemia and hyperuricaemia
Summary:
A case of 58-years old male is present, in whom apart from achieving the goals of antihypertensive and hypoglycaemic therapy, it was necessary to modify the lipid-lowering and hypouricemic therapy. Recent studies and guidelines indicate the benefits of obtaining both LDL cholesterol and uric acid levels lower than before. For the treatment of hyperuricaemia, guidelines call for consideration of treatment with allopurinol. However, in the treatment of hypercholesterolaemia, intensive therapy will increasingly be based on statins and ezetimibe. The use of a combined preparation (in the presented case rosuvastatin + ezetimibe) is associated not only with a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol but also has a positive effect on the degree of compliance.
Keywords: hypercholesterolaemia, statin, ezetimibe, single pill combination, uric acid, allopurinol
