In search of optimal antihypertensive drugs combination ‒ focus on candesartan and amlodipine
Summary:
The 2018 ESC/ESH guidelines and the Polish Society of Hypertension guidelines from 2019 place an emphasis on the use of the single pill combinations in hypertension therapy from the beginning. The basis of therapy are drugs that inhibit the reninangiotensin system in combination with a calcium antagonist or diuretic. This article discusses the place of combination of candesartan with amlodipine in the treatment of hypertension in the light of current guidelines. The significant hypotensive effect, metabolic neutrality and beneficial effect on cardiovascular risk that characterize this combination indicate its significant place, especially when using single pill combination in the treatment of hypertension.
