Progression of atherosclerosis ‒ it is important to control both hypertension and hypercholesterolemia
Summary:
Elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels significantly affect the cardiovascular risk at an early age. An important role is played by the influence of these risk factors on the develop-ment and progression of atherosclerotic lesions. The efficacy of pharmacological interventions - antihypertensive and lipid-lowering treatment - has been demonstrated, with a positive effect on the progression of atherosclerotic lesions, and thus on the reduction of cardiovascular risk. The results of epidemiological studies indicate that the control of both risk factors is insufficient. One of the ways to improve the effectiveness of blood pressure control and hypercholesterolaemia is the use of combination of preparations based on antihypertensive drugs and statins.
